Spotlight on the Scripture:
And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of
covetousness:
for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance
of the things which he posesseth.
Luke 12:15
This month's Message:
"Lord, help me to avoid the technology trap. Make
me see that being computer literate and devoid of love is sinful.
Don't let my fascination with human creativity keep me from knowing You, my
Creator, more intimately.
Turn my path from the world and toward You."

I'm a recovering technoholic. I was so badly addicted that I deliberately steered my wife to malls with Sharper Image and Brookstone stores. Rushing toward the flashing light and surround sound, I'd tell Marge to go shop on her own and come back for me in an hour. At home my thirst for gadgets plagued me too. Catalogs piled up and credit cards maxed out.
Sadly, however, as my garage, home and office filled with the marvels of man's ingenuity, I learned that technological progress has little to do with spiritual progress. In fact, our fascination with the latest technological trinkets can keep us from developing relationships with our friends - and with our God. It can deaden us, spiritually and lead to our wasting time and money that could have been used for God's purpose.
Technology itself, of course is not evil. It is nothing more than using God's gift of creativity to do our work faster and better. What makes it evil is what we use it for. My enchantment with technology, frankly, has almost always been self-serving. Better entertainment. Increased income. More leisure. Greater thrills.
Sometimes I think we Christian's living in the USA's Industrial North believe we are included in one of Jesus' unspoken Beatitudes: "Blessed are the technologically advanced, for they shall obtain greater efficiency." But you know, efficiency in the cause of self-aggrandizement gets us nothing but more of self.
I guess we haven't progressed very far from Eden, have we?
These thoughts brought me not long ago to consider how technology in a God-less society could propose a toast: "Here's to healthier, busier, easier and longer meaningless life."
Lord, help me to avoid the technology trap. Make me see that being computer literate and devoid of love is sinful. Don't let my fascination with human creativity keep me from knowing You, my Creator, more intimately. Turn my path from the world and toward You.
REFLECTION
How much money have I spent on high-tech stuff in the last several years.? Have those purchases made me a better Christian?
What would happen if I were to spend even half the time reading Christian literature and building spiritual bridges to my non-Christian friends as I do playing with my high-tech stuff?
Come to God Today!
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
Testimony - I found all that I need in the Lord!
I thank God so much for the opportunity to share my testimony with the world and the
community at LittleAfrica.com. More importantly, I thank God for coming and saving
me from a world of sin and placing me into his holy family.
Those that know me have probably looked on my life and said "You have it all!". God has indeed blessed me naturally. At age 30, I am finishing up my 3rd straight year of earning well in excess of six figures in compensation. In addition to my career as a Finance executive, I am a CPA, a personal financial planner, owner of a tax and financial planning practice, CEO of a promising internet start-up company, a principal in a new business venture and have gained valuable work experience at Fortune 20 companies in the areas of Finance and Strategic Planning. Prior to all of this, I was a top rated high school athlete who went on to star in Division I athletics at one of the top academic universities in the world. In addition to being captain of the team for two years, I also managed to earn Dean's List honors.
All of these things, while impressive to some, did little for my soul. I thought I was self-sufficient, yet I couldn't do anything unless God saw fit to have mercy and allow it to be. One day on my way up the corporate ladder, God got my attention and caused me to know that I was a sinner in need of a savior. I had been a church-goer all of my life, but I was not saved. You see, going to church does not save you. Accepting Jesus saves you. When you accept Jesus he will change your life. No longer do I have a desire to live a sinful life - God has changed me and for that I am most grateful.
After saving me, God got my attention again and allowed me to know that all of my life, I was consumed by my own ambition. I had an insatiable appetite to compete, to win, to get promoted, and to make more money. God let me know that he gave me the abilities that I have and that they were to be used for his glory - not mine. He changed my life for me to be an example to millions. I believe my purpose is to show that you can have extraordinary abilities, have a successful career, earn lots of money and live a clean life for Jesus.
You can have all of the things that I have and more, but you need Jesus. I am glad that one day, I found all that I need...
...I FOUND IT IN THE LORD!
